Galena Country Oasis

The owners wanted somewhere to entertain large groups and somewhere to sit as a family, and were told often enough that those are different gardens.

The answer was to stop treating the space as one room. The design breaks it into several: a raised patio holds an expansive fireplace under a cedar pergola as the main focal point, with steps down on either side leading to a hammock on one flank and the bar and grill area on the other.

When the hammock comes down, that lower patio takes the overflow seating for a party. Changes of paving pattern and border do the quiet work of telling one room from the next without a single wall.
